Its large main compartment has a pocket that will fit most sleeved laptops and the bungeed cinch top will keep any load in place.

Functionality
Sized for use as a Go-Bag, day trips, office commutes, or as a smaller carry-on, our RUSH 12™ pack is loaded with most of the same features as its larger teammates for maximum utility. Designed by special operations combat veteran, Kyle Lamb of VTACTM, the RUSH 12™ was created because of end-user input. Its large main compartment has a pocket that will fit most sleeved laptops and the bungeed cinch top will keep any load in place. Two mesh pockets on the inside of the main flap hold computer accessories, electronics, binos, and other smaller items you want readily accessible. The 12"H x 9"W x 1"D Admin compartment on the front of the pack opens wide and has slots and pockets to organize pens, business cards, camera, GPS, and much more, plus two key keepers and a large internal zippered pocket. Web platform on the outside of the compartment allows you to add 5.11’s SlickStickTM pouches for even more gear capacity and the 2" x 3" velcro patch is great for flag or unit patches. The 5"H x 8"W zippered pocket above the Admin compartment is a handy spot for radio, phone, travel documents, energy bars, and smaller gear and is also covered with web platform and a velcro patch for your nametape. Two compression straps keep everything snugged closer to your body for comfortable load management. We also tucked our zippered fleece-lined eyewear pocket on top, just behind the heavy-duty grab handle. Dual concealed hydration tube ports are located to the sides of the handle. Both sides feature top-to-bottom web platform, allowing you to attach a host of different 5.11’s SlickStickTM accessories. The back panel conceals a reinforced hydration pocket that will accommodate bladders up to 60 oz. The extra padding on the back panel promotes ventilation and the anti-skid pads help keep the RUSH 12™ in place. We added tri-glide fasteners at the bottom corners in case you want to add a waist belt. The padded contoured shoulder straps have four rows of web platform and the sternum strap can be adjusted to four heights. Excess webbing can be gathered at the bottom of the straps with our elastic keepers. Two 3/8" grommets in the bottom panel let the RUSH 12™ breathe and allow water and debris to escape. We also added four attachment points for 1" webbing to the bottom.

Hardware
Constructed of water-resistant 1050-denier nylon, the RUSH 12™ Backpack will go the distance! We use self-repairing YKK® nylon coil zippers throughout and our high-impact plastic side release buckles, tri-glide fasteners, and other hardware are not affected by differences in climate. Metal grommets and zipper sliders are coated to match the pack and for resistance to corrosion.

Comments about 5.11 Tactical RUSH 12 Backpack:

I use this pack every time I ride. "A sport bike." It fits enough for a two day trip. It solves the great problem of conceal carry on a bike. It doesn't shift around while riding, even though it only has one strap, stays right in place. I can't believe 511 hasn't marketed this to riders yet.

Comments about 5.11 Tactical RUSH 12 Backpack:

I asked for and got the Black version of this pack for Christmas to replace my old "laptop" bag as my daily bag for commuting to & from work, with a secondary use as a day-hiking/light travel pack. From my use so far (over 2 months of everyday use) it is an outstanding product! I've used to to carry my lunch, umbrella, ipod and a few other odds & ends to & from work, and have flown with it as a carry-on as well.

Starting from the top: The RUSH 12 has a very ergonomic and strong carry handle on top, well designed and very well secured to the pack, much better than other packs I've had.

I really like how the variety of pockets/compartments allow me to organize my stuff: The fleece-lined sunglass compartment is one of my favorite features and keeps my shades from getting all scratched up like they did in my old bag. The admin pocket (just below the sunglass pocket) holds my ipod and also my phones & keys when I put them there to go through the metal detectors at work. I would like to see this pocket a little deeper to hold more things, but it is adequate. The name tape space is also a nice touch and I have a nametape on order to place there. The larger outer compartment is excellent also and holds a decent amount of stuff (usually my lunch for work). Also like the flag/ unit patch area it has.

On the inside, the main compartment is very well laid out. It has a laptop-holding pouch which fits my big Dell laptop w/ 15" screen perfectly, though it is just a touch snug. I don't mind this, as it helps keep it secure. My A/C adapter is also easily accomodated. The mesh pouches are excellent also and can hold a wide variety of small-medium items.

This bag also contains a hydration pocket which will hold a 60oz or less hydration bladder, with ports for the hose to come out and be accessible. I haven't used this yet, but plan to buy a bladder and may update the review once I try this feature.

The back of the bag (where your back makes contact) is VERY egronomic and comfortable with 4 contact points to help ventilate. Also has a stiff plastic backing to keep it flat against your back & prevent objects from poking you in the back. This is one of my favorite things and makes it very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

The MOLLE strapping found all around the pack appears mil-spec and high quality (as I'd expect from 5.11). I don't currently have any pouches/accessories attached, but am confident that they would weave in with little trouble.

The shoulder straps are by far THE most ergonomic on any pack I've ever had! I love how they curve to the human shape and keep the pack riding high, thus keeping the weight on the shoulders and off the back. They also have MOLLE webbing on them to help secure things like a camelbak hose or radio. The chest strap goes across the torso when fastened and works well to further stabilize the pack. One minor criticsm I have is that if you're not using the straps, they can flop around as you walk and have caught on my jacket as I take the pack on & off. Easy enough to fix though, I simply shoved each half under the MOLLE loops on the straps and this helps secure them. Just a minor thing that may or may not matter to you.

This pack also has compression straps that, when cinched, will help shrink the size of the bag, very useful if space is limited (i.e. you're using this as a carry on bag for an airplane). I've used them while flying with this pack as my carry-on and they work well. One consideration: if you're accessing the main compartment a lot, fastening and unfastening the straps may annoy you but you don't have to use them and can simply shove them into the nearby MOLLE loops like I do with the chest strap.

Overall, I find this to be an outstanding pack for EDC, light traveling or dayhiking. It is well-designed, well engineered, has very good pocket arrangements, excellent comfort under a full load and is very durable. The MOLLE also allows you to increase your load capacity by adding on external pouches like the MOAB series. Now, the RUSH 12 not something I would choose if I were going out on a 3 day expedition or really long distance hike, but it's not meant for that. If you need more capacity/space, you can upgrade to the RUSH 24 and 72. Within its limitations, this is an outstanding choice for students, commuting workers, day hikers or frequent air travelers. It's not super cheap, but high quality usually isn't. I think it will more than pay for itself through the great durability, versatility and ruggedness it will provide over years of good service, making it totally worth the money. Get this pack, you won't regret it!

This is a nice small to medium sized backpack. Its great as a day pack or even as a school backpack for the tacticoolist kid. ;-) Its large enough to hold a 15" MacbookPro and has plenty of accessory pockets for smaller items. Ipad also fits perfectly in the front pocket. Check out the video.

Comments about 5.11 Tactical RUSH 12 Backpack:

This is a great bag. Comfortable, light, plenty of MOLLE space, etc. My only complaint is that there is only two pockets to speak of, the main one and the small one in front. But the main pocket is fairly deep which makes up for it. All in all a good bag and one I highly recommend.
