I'm not sure where all these rave reviews are coming from, but these are one of the worst pants ever. These are low-rise and tight. They're akin to skinny jeans without the tapered leg. If these are this tight, I'm guessing the slim fit version of these are even worse.
I'm 6'1 and weigh 190 lbs. My waist is a 33. I bought these in size 34x34 and the waist is slightly loose (not a problem there). However, it's low rise. I despise low rise anything. You feel like you have to constantly pull them up and there's not enough material.
The worst part is the fit of the thigh area. These are tight. Like I said, they fit like skinny jeans. I have no idea how anyone can put anything in these pockets, let alone ammo clips and other tools. I can't even fit my wallet or cell phone in these pants.
Extremely uncomfortable and tight. I also think these aren't a true 34 inch inseam. They don't break properly at the ankle area and seem to be a bit short.
Just got mine today! I will be getting more as these will be replacing all my pants. For future buyers, I’m 6’ 185lbs, and got 33x34 and they fit perfect. I've been using a t-rex sidecar holster with a G19 and the pants work great. I also will carry a S&W shield iwb at about 4:00, pants do great. My belt is a Snake Eater Tactical edc 1.5”.
I've tried Duluth flex fire hose, Kuhl renegade and revolver, carhartts, cinch, levi...5.11 defender is all I want now.
I have the Defender Flex bluejeans, and they are amazing, so I figured I would pick up a few pair of the Defender Flex Straight Pants in khaki. I finally got them shipped (5.11 is a little slow in this arena, but it’s all good) and wore them to work all day yesterday. I work mostly in an office setting now working computer crimes, so I carry strong side OWB Glock 23. The belt loop placement is perfect for this kind of carry for me, but you don't need to be an LEO to enjoy what these pants have to offer. These pants wear well, very light feeling, and move with your body very naturally. The waistband is also perfect for IWB, which is how I carry when I am commuting, but in the appendix position. I replaced the 5.11 “Covert Khaki 2.0” pants with these, and they easily pass for normal business casual pants. In fact, I had several people in my office comment on them and ask me to send them the link for these pants. I even ordered three more pair to round out my wardrobe. I have to say, 5.11 has really come a long way over the years, and these will be my new pants no matter what the situation calls for. Good job guys!
Great idea of a low key stretch pant. But a few gripes. If you AIWB carry the front belt loops may to close for you. They were for me. The front pockets are not deep enough if you carry a phone like a Galaxy S7 edge or like iPhone plus in the front. My S7 would not go deep enough and would pinch me trying to sit down. Same with my pocket knife on the right side. Otherwise loved the idea of the extra pockets on the back. Pistol mag fit in there nice. Stretch was good. But had to return em due to the issues. Hopefully the pants get updated and fixed. I will buy em if so. Will have to go back to the stryke pants. 5.11 if you guys want a tester for future pants hit me up.
I just received my defender jean in indigo, and I'm extremely impressed. I ordered the indigo colored one, and I also ordered the defender pant in volcanic. I love the colors, and the fact they don't scream here comes Mr. Tactical. These fit perfect, and are very flexible, and lightweight. These pants have very small metal rivets reinforcing the pocket corners that are black and say 5.11, and also have a small label on the right rear pocket that says 5.11. Unless someone stands right next to you with binoculars they won't ever notice who made them unless you tell them. These pants have 8 belt loops, and 7 pockets. I can pocket carry my Glock 42, and 43. The smaller Glock slides in easily, and the bigger one fits but is difficult to pull out without hanging up and making a smooth draw possible. This isn't really a concern for me as I carry my Glock 19, and these guns are for backup. I really like the zipper it's really smooth, and the button too also is embossed with the words five eleven, on it recessed sides, with its face having its 5.11 logo. The only two things that could make these jeans better would be if the were made in the USA, and the front pockets had a just slightly wider opening for pocket carry. These jeans and defender pants are made in Cambodia. I will definitely be buying the rest of the colors in both pants and jeans, as this has to be one of 5.11's best ever item to come to market as far as I'm concerned. I've been searching for jeans that would be good for concealed carry, that didn't look all tactical, for years with no luck. There are a few companies who make them, but none that I seemed to care for. Buy these with confidence.
The most comfortable jeans I have ever worn. If these don't fade or wear out fast, this will be the best clothing purchase I've ever made for the entire year.
I picked a pair at the new Springfield VA store. I was in the mall shopping for jeans and could not find a pair that fit like my old Levis 569 loose straight. The current 569 fits nothing like my old ones. So I'm headed to best buy on another quest when I spot the the 5.11 store. "Let me check this place out" I thought to my self. Brothers let me tell you these jeans right here!! Fit like a team of government engineers crafted them every step of the way. I'm am thrilled with these jeans. They feel great and move with you. I have no complaints at all. I will be buying more in the near future. Need them in more colors
Great fitting, very comfortable pant that has a practical application in everyday use. Pockets are well thought out and all very useful, waistband is extremely comfortable and accepts an IOW holster easily and wears well all day. Lightweight enough for summer. Mag pockets and extra back pockets for flashlight, tac pen or pocketknife.
