Heavy duty

Thought this pen was tough. I knew it was tough when I accidentally ran it over with my truck and it survived. It has a little spot where the finish rubbed off from the concrete, other than that it is fine. That made me a believer

I use the pen just like any other writing instrument but it does impart a bit of confidence knowing that it has some serious other uses.

Excellent... almost a perfect 10!

Quick review/impression:

Model: the 5.11 Tactical "Black Double Duty 1.5" Tactical Pen in the matte black finish, much nicer and more 'subdued' finish then the less expensive 5.11 'glossy' finish 1.0 model.
Great moderate palm swell design of the body of the cap end that allows for a very firm/secure grip.
The cap end has a 'flat' thumb platform design covered in a textured TPR (Thermo Plastic Rubber) for superb thumb purchase, allowing for a more power backed and forceful application towards a potential aggressor.
An excellent perfectly sized steel clip.
All threads are superbly and cleanly threaded yielding a completely water tight O-ringed seal.
The defensive stylus tip has a very nice point with four (4) scalloped cutouts tooled into the tip, all four edges of the scallops have rather aggressive edges sort of like a tac. flashlight bezel, but will not cut your clothes.

I chose the 5.11 Tactical Black Double Duty 1.5 Tactical Pen because it's made well, "subdued", not heavy, fat, over built, overly tooled, attention getting rainbow Titanium, red, blue green, striped or polka dot.
It's relatively thin, light and has a design which I prefer... the end cap is a flat shape which gives me superb thumb purchase allowing for greater powerful striking.

I did have to change the default Parker style ink cartridge, as when I tried to write at a horizontal angle (on a note pad against a wall), the ink stopped flowing.... I simply replaced it with a Fisher S.P. refill and it now writes at any angle, in any temperature and through any liquid (as you know).

The only thing I would change regarding it's design is its length as it is 5 ½ inches long, I'd prefer another ½ inch or make it a full 6 ½ inches as is my KZ (Kley Zion) Stinger which gives that extra bit of distance between the operator and potential aggressor.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality of the 5.11 Tactical "Black Double Duty 1.5" Tactical Pen and at below MSRP with which I purchased ... no complaints.

I own several Tactical pens. This one is by far the best to write with and offers great value for money.

tactical pen rocks

well built pen that has a sharp pointy tip. It can be used as stabbing instrument in defensive situation. However, be careful where you place it because it can make a hole in your shirt pocket or pants. Also don't place it anywhere that will poke you when bending over. Pen writes well.
