The socks provide the comfort and capabilities as described in the product write up. They are absolutely great initially (and they never lose the elasticity over time, and also are not too tight). I wear combat boots/hiking boots daily for the team I am on...so, the socks matter (especially since the boots are issued). These are my preferred socks to wear, especially if I am on an extended mission (anything over 24 hours)...however, the longevity of these socks are questionable. I own around 6 pairs, and almost all of them are done due to the quality of the heals. The socks hold up well everywhere else, except in the heals (for me). Every single pair has holes in the heals in the exact same spot after 1.5 to 2 years of normal use. Unfortunately, I have some Nike Dri-Fits that also go above the calves that have held up significantly better and for much longer periods of time...I say unfortunately, because I am a huge fan of 5.11 (and their support of the military/LEO communities) and these 5.11 socks are more comfortable when in good condition.
Extremely disappointed with these socks. They are comfortable but they do not last. I bought 5 pair of these less than a year ago to match up with a new pair of 5.11 Speed 3.0 boots and almost every single sock has a large hole in the back of the heel now. I've had Walmart socks last much longer than these socks.
I have been buying 5.11 socks for years, but in the last two years the quality has gone done. I do agree with the reviewer earlier about the smell, but worse than that is how quickly my recent 5.11 sock purchases have fallen apart. They all gets holes and rips in them sooner than they should. The y have obviously changed the supplier/quality. The socks are the only 5.11 items that are not up to par. I will not be purchasing pairs in the future.
I concur with WRANGLER COP. Moisture control is key and I have and found this sock traps moisture. It is more wet on the inside than the outside of the sock. By the end of the day, the funk goes rancid and no joke, it stinks horribly. I don't have this problem with other socks this quickly. It's not even summer yet. This is just from sitting at my office where it's nice and cool. In fact. I've got them off now blowing in front of fan to dry them so i can put back on in an attempt to keep my feet breathing before the funk comes! Plus i haven't quite figured why 9" goes goes up past my knees. I'm only 5'5" but i would think i would 9" sock means 1" past an 8" boot perhaps. Definitely, go with the 6" socks if don't want knee high.
Security and Army National Guard. I spend a lot of hours on my feet. I've worn these socks for two years. Finally replacing them. OTC with arch support is definitely the way to go. Great Socks!! I'm gonna try the new 5.11 OTC socks with reinforced heels.
I've bought 3 pairs of these socks and I loved them. Until about 3 months in to owning them the all got holes in the toes. I sewed those shut and kept using them but after another month or so the heels began to fail. They are nothing more than netting now. Sad coming from 5.11 I expected a bit better durability the the no name cool max socks or the standard issue army socks. On the bright side the do wick well your feet will stay dry they are warm enough for spring and cool enough from summer. I will probably buy another pair to see if I just got a pair of Lemons.
Being in a pair of boots for 8-10hrs a day for a week tends to take a toll on your feet. I was hoping that these would do the trick to help me out and make my feet more comfortable.
Not the case. They made my feet sweat so bad during my shift that when I took them off I could clear a room with how bad my feet smelled. You know it's bad when you cant take it. I thought it might just be my boots as I am coming on a year with them but that was not the case. I tried everything under the sun to help with the smell in my boots.
The only thing so far that I have found was to stop wearing these shocks.
Do not dry the socks - it will damage the material as with all good wicking material, but I have never seen this manifested with socks, which are this thick
Everyday sock of choice why wear anything else?
Bought for my son, a soldier in the IDF. He is very happy with it.
