move the covert pocket

These pants would be even better if the covert pocket was moved to either the front, just like the taclite class B PDU, or on the top of the cargo pocket, most preferably. Reviewed on May 9th of 2017

The moment I pulled the pants out of the box they were awful...I went to unbutton them for the first time and it broke off....without even trying them on first...

What Happened?

I am a 10+ year LEO in Central Minnesota. I have worn 5.11 uniforms my entire career and have always found them to be of excellent quality and very useful... until now. I recently replaced two of my older 5.11 Class B pants with the twill PDU pants. The fit is true, and I do not mind the waistband design. However, I cannot understand why they changed the design of the cargo pockets. The new design has rendered them virtually useless. They are impossible to access while sitting and inconvenient to use while standing. The ideal placement for the secondary pocket opening is on the top, but if you are going to place it on the side, why not have the zipper on the front so it can be accessed while seated? Also, they have removed the Backup Belt System Velcro from inside the pockets. I use the BBS for my back-up, and it also is convenient for other accessories such as TQs, etc.

On the other hand, they feel like they are constructed well, though I have only worn them for a few weeks. Time will tell.

5.11! Listen to your customers on this one, you missed the mark with this new design.

pants do not move well

I agree with what has been written thus far - the side zippers of the cargo pockets are useless, cant open and close with one hand, the cut in the pants fit every where but the mid thigh area. When I sit in the squad, I'm being squeezed to death. I keep washign them hoping they will fit like my old 5.11 uniforms but thus far, no dice after 3 months. Dont get me wrong - I love 5.11 - but come on - these pants are not working out for your customers.

I spoke with a 5.11 rep back in Feb. He sent me a pair of these for a wear test. Up until now we did not have a calss B pant. My chief was worried about color fade {we were black} as he has seen with other BDU style pants. These pants have benn worn alot and still haven't seen a noticable color fade. I think we are in the process of ordering the PDU to have a class B pant and we can save our striped polyesters for court. I would recommend these pants for any agency.

Switch back to the old Poly rayon Pants

The pants feel cheap, and you lost the Back up duty belt pockets. Even if you didnt use the back up belt system, having the extra pockets was great. These cant hold much and look like your packing for winter.

Why change a great product?

I have always loved and used 5.11 products for duty uniforms and other items. For 8 years I have never had any issues with their products. However, the "new" PDU uniform is far off the mark from what I expect from 5.11. The fabric used in their uniform used to be a poly/rayon/lycra blend. It was comfortable, quiet, breathed well in the summer, and yet was heavy enough in the winter. The new Tactlite fabric feels like wearing cheap wind pants. They swish loudly and rip at every turn. The other material, a ripstop cotton blend, is stiff, heavy, and overall uncomfortable. I tried both and will not wear either. I noticed that the new PDU uniform is cheaper than the poly/rayon blend was. After wearing them, I know why. In calling 5.11 I was put on hold, transferred to other people, and was brushed off at every turn. I will no longer be a client of 5.11.

The pdu b-cl twill pants(74326)was loose fitting & very comfortable.Thats the reason why people buy 511 pants. For some reason one your rocket scientist decided to make the 74326 a slimmer fit which make them tight & very differcult to function at the work place.CAN YOU PLEASE BRING BACK THE LOOSE FIT 74326 PANTS FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE UNABLE TO WORK IN TIGHT PANTS. THANK YOU

Still the best choice for a 'tactical' duty pant. Disliked when the changed the waist from the normal elastic style a few years ago, and wish they didn't stick with it on this new style. Many officers complain about how they seem to fit unevenly due to the new waist causing the pants to bunch up in one area once you tighten your belt, or the movement of the overlapping elastic causes your shirt to bunch up in those areas requiring constant adjustment throughout the shift to maintain a professional look. Glad they kept the side and flash light pockets, but don't understand the zipper placement or what benefits it presents. The older styles had a zipper at the top so you could easily close or open the zipper as needed. I usually left mine open and stored my patrol gloves in there allowing quick easy access. The pants now have a zipper on the back side of the side pockets the opens up vertically. It is awkward to use and is not very secure since items can easily fall out due to the placement of the pocket. Haven't had them long enough, but I hope the construction has improved so the stitching/ seams will hold up longer. Also would be nice to have a lighter poly/rayon blend.
