I've got 4 pairs of 5.11 Tactical ATAC Boot 8" Side Zip boots that I cycle through each day. One for "dress", one for everyday and two for getting grubby. I do a fair amount of welding and that can be hard on laces. I went looking and could find no better price on a lace than the original 5.11 (excellent lace). Using the chart I order the 84" lace that is supposed to be the replacement for my size 12 boots. Ended up cutting off a foot because they are too long. On a standard boot, I could see the longer lace, taking a wrap around the top, but that defeats the beauty of the side zip. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice...
When I bought my black full leather combat boots (brand new, straight from factory ).
After first week, even applying that weird lacing technique which prevents hell lift, I still experienced pressure points on fore foot (that double-overhand knot was pressing my forefoot).
Nevertheless, the laces were a bit too short to perform a upper boot collar wrap.
When I changed the laces from default to 5.11 ones - seriously - the pressure points on upper foot are gone (I dunno, maybe 5.11s are a little softer but I like that).
I give the product a 4 only b/c I just started using them and don't know how they'll perform over the long haul. I'm thinking the tips will wear out eventually and don't know how they'll perform after that. I love that you can't pull them too tight. I was breaking all of my other laces on my logging boots before I found these. And made in USA is awesome!
The 5.11 replacement laces fit in my 5.11 A.T.A.C. 6" Shield Side Zip ASTM Boot and have the durablity like all 5.11 products, feels good to have 5.11 laces to support my 5.11 boots. Don't split or loosen after use.
