great EMS/Fire knife

5.0

From Ken

I bought this knife when it came available from 511 and it has served me well while working for the 3rd busiest ems system in the country. The blade width and length are great for prying and extrication use and I have not had any minor or serious issues with wear or chipping of the blade itself. The sheath clamps are a little dinky but no serious complaints there. Would recommend to anyone!

Great knife when paired with the drop leg.

Picked up this knife from a local dealer and bought the 5.11 drop leg platform. Mounted my blackhawk serpa holster on it as well as the knife. It screws right in to the holes already designed there. Holds it very nicely and it is very sturdy. Knife feels very good in my hand and is rugged. It makes a great tool. I am an armed security officer and wear it daily. Have zero problems with it.

I really like this knife a lot.
But when I put it on my 511 operator belt the knife rides really high. Very hard to draw the knife. Need to design a quick draw style sheath. May try to re-drill holes in sheath in order to convert to a side draw that can be worn in the middle of back or side carry.

Great EDC

The knife has good heft, a good factory edge, and one of the most comfortable grips i've had on a knife. the only downside is that the molle/belt clips aren't up to snuff with the rest of the knife. the sheath holds well, retention is not an issue. if you are going to get this, i recommend seeking higher quality molle locks as the ones provided are best suited for a molle rig, and not a thick duty belt.

Proper defensive knife

From Tropical-Thunder

Very solid construction, no chance whatsoever of the knife itself and handle becoming loose, very strong in that regard. Knife tip broke off after a few weeks of use, but the body of the knife is still intact and works perfectly well for using it as a handy tool for work and more importantly it will last years as a personal defense weapon. Only one complaint: the sheath is not up to scratch for such a hardy knife. It's clips do not provide great carry options, for me it's on the waist (belt), but clips can come loose and even break with regular use. Overall, I would recommend this to someone looking for a personal defense weapon.

I love this knife!!! This knife is a great tool to have on your belt or on your pack. Straight out of the box this knife was extremely sharp and amazingly comfortable in the hand. The only down side to this knife package is the sheath. The sheath is MOLLE compatible but on the belt I'm almost afraid that the sheath will bend to far or even break. That's not to say i would have a second thought about bringing this knife with me deep into the amazon! But be easy on the sheath and this will be a great knife for you to own!

I've only had the knife for a short time, and bought it (honestly) because I wanted a fixed blade combat knife and 2012 5.11 freebie is so bloody sharp I knew the Surge would be even better, and I've not been disappointed. I have it mounted inverted on the left shoulder strap of my Rush24 go bag (slightly tight fit, but it works). I've been in the field with it twice so far, and no sheath problems as reported by other customers. The knife fits my hand very, very well, and retention is not a problem. I'll probably get some BladeTech components so I can move it quickly from pack to belt by just moving the attachment plate.

I am very satisfied with the quality of the knife. However, the poor quality of the sheath forced me to move this knife from my flak to my closet where it now sits. The sheath provided broke within the first few weeks of having the knife. Prior to this, getting the knife to stay attached to anything was near impossible due to the poor quality of the clips on the back of the sheath. The clips didn't function correctly right out of the box. I contacted customer service and they were very helpful and sent me a new clip out in Afghanistan. After getting the new clip I realized I didn't have a bad clip, but simply the design of the clips is faulty and they do not work. If you're going to get this knife, plan on getting a new sheath.
