When it worked, it worked well. The problem is that it didn't work for long and the connection was poor. I cleaned it and it saw very little abuse but still performed poorly. Had it less than a year. Pass on this one.
After several years of good service, my A1 started to shut off and not function \ function dim - after calling customer service about parts, they just sent me a new tailcap \switch. When this did not cure the problem, I disassembled the front half and found a loose ground ring was causing all my problems - a little un bending and the A1 has been back to 100% and working great. I abuse this light daily so the maintenance interval of 15 mins. every 2 years is OK by me !!!
This 60 year old Eagle Scout has owned many flashlights over the years, both military and civilian and have found none that can compare to this one. Compact size, exceptional light output and economical single AA battery usage, as well as self defense features of blinding strobe and indents in lens cap for abrasive use make it the BEST light I have ever owned. I have at least 6 of them.
About 1 year gao I started using a TMT L1 that I recieved as a gift from a 5.11 rep at a conferance. It stopped working this summer. It appears that the switch is bad. I saw the same rep this fall and explained that I loved the light and carried it for about a year at work, hunting and fishing and the scout camp but it stopped working. He replaced the light and sent me a second one. Well that one stopped working too. It appears that the switch works when it wants to. I now have 2 TMT L1s that may or may not turn on when I need them. I always trusted 5.11 but you blew it on the flashlights big time. The size is great the beam is great but none of that matters if you can turn it on. I will park your lights and go buy a flash light from a flash light company. Not your best product at all.
