This is my second 5.11 light--I already have an L2, but I wanted one for work that runs on AA batteries.
A good light doesn't seem complicated. I want a solid metal body that is weather resistant, with a simple on/off switch on the end so I can turn it on and off without struggling with the switch. But for some reason this combination isn't to be found in cheaper flashlights. Some are close, but nobody seems to get it right.
I've been using a couple different lights, and the best two I've found at local stores leave a lot to be desired. One is a major name brand that is quite good, except it has a tiny switch on the side that is hard to find in the dark. Another has a switch on the end, but the switch is recessed, making it difficult to turn the light on and off while wearing gloves. Neither one is acceptable.
So I bought a $45 light. To some that sounds expensive, but I already spent that much on the two flashlights that are a pain to use!
I guess I'm saying I'm happy to pay a little more if it means getting a light that works better and will last longer than the alternatives.

I've had this flashlight for 2 years and it finally broke on me. Nice and bright with a good spread and battery life was decent. Used it as an every day carry and work and put some good use to it. For under 50$ this is a nice flashlight. Just wished it lasted longer than 2 years.
