WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
“I am an adrenaline junkie, when it get’s really tough - I want to be there. And of course being able to make a difference, that’s what it is all about. The feeling of helping another human being makes me really appreciate what I have. And having a bond with the colleagues that I go through these tough situations with, is a great plus.”
WHAT DOES "BEING READY" OR "BEING PREPARED" MEAN FOR YOU?
“Solving problems, having to make important decisions and visualising how to deal with a difficult situation are key skills for my job. This requires me to have a clear head, to be open-minded and focused when I arrive at work. So a lot of everyday preparation for me goes into being mentally ready.
But of course, having the right gear on me to be able to handle any situation that comes my way is important - because “anything” tends to come my way pretty often.”
WHY DO YOU HAVE A GO-BAG AND WHEN DO YOU USE IT?
“My go-bag contains all my essentials and is ready to be thrown on at short notice when I need to be on the move. I love using a slingpack like the MOAB 6 as it’s easy to put on over my other gear quickly. And it fits a surprising amount of stuff - I even carry a packable jacket against the rain and cold in it when I need it!”
WHAT ARE YOUR 3 MOST IMPORTANT ITEMS IN YOUR GO-BAG AND WHY?
“I would say: Identification, first aid or medic kit and a camo net for concealment. The most important for any first responder is safety at all times, meaning we all have that “staying-safe” item that belongs in our go-bag - equipment that will protect you while doing your job. We need to be safe in order to help others.”
