I got these shoes in the heart of the "Polar Vortex" this year and they stood up well to all of the snow, ice and salt. They kept my feet warm and dry in most circumstances, they do have their limitations(they are a low shoe). Even as the seasons have changed they have continued to preform well. I use them in a every busy EMS 911system in New York and have and will recommend these to my friends and coworkers.

Lasted for 900 Miles of Rucking / Hiking

By Dr. Richard

from USA

Was this a gift?

Pros

  • Lasted For 900 Miles
  • Lightweight
  • No blisters
  • Doesn't Look Tactical

Cons

  • Lasted For 900 Miles
  • Poor quality
  • Inside Heels Wear Out

My profession is

  • Other

I have used this product for

  • 3-6 months

Best Uses

  • Tactical training
  • Rucking
  • Hiking

I have used these for 893.6 miles worth of rucking and hiking (most with a 25 lb pack on a 230 lb hiker) since September 25th 2013 (6.5 miles per day average, 7 days per week) but it is now time to replace these as they have reached the point where continued use will cause problems. Zero blisters and good fit. They are light and I've done as much as 10.5 miles in a day with them. They give excellent footing except in ice and have been worn in all fall and winter conditions.

The negative is that they wear out excessively fast on the inside section of the heel. After almost 900 miles of hiking and rucking in 4.5 months, the soles are also showing wear. Realistically, these are good for about 750 to 1,000 miles of rucking or hiking. Then it is time to retire them for use doing chores for which you would not want to wear good new shoes. If the inside heel didn't wear out, I probably could get about 1200 miles / 6 months use out of them.

I have just started as a courier and this shoe is great for driving and in and out of truck all day. Great traction on wet surfaces, no slips yet. I wish I had been advised there was a wide fit available. Just have to wear thin socks with these.

This trainer is an excellent choice for a multi-purpose shoe. I was looking for something to bridge the gap between wearing my boots (which are extremely comfortable) and my regular exercise shoes. This shoe meets that need perfectly. Rugged, comfortable, with the support and traction I wanted all wrapped up into this shoe and priced right, I am extremely satisfied.

Out of the box, felt great! I've thrown away, given away, or disposed of way too many shoes and sneakers over the past 10 years! These are keepers.
I've worn them all day today, and they still don't hurt the big toe or little toe, and they're cool looking too!

I use these shoes for running, hiking, rucking, training, biking, around the house, everyday wear, at work, pretty much everything.
These are the best shoes I have ever owned.
They have the comfort of a sneaker (more than that in fact) and all the advantages of a boot.
My only complaint is that they take forever to dry. Once they're wet, they'll be wet for a long time.

The 5.11 Tactical Trainer is an extremely comfortable shoe and worth the price. I have been looking for a like shoe for almost a year, and rolled the dice with a mail order. I require a wide shoe, and this one will not disappoint. The Ortholite insert is probably the area I could see 5.11 making an improvement as the insert often dictates the life of the shoe, and chances are I will be replacing these inserts with a more durable pair in about three months.

I have flat, wide feet and also suffer from Plantar Faciatis. It is very difficult to find a comfortable shoe of any kind. I have used 5.11 products, boots, pants, shirts, socks, etc. and have always gotten what I had hoped for. I am looking forward to an extended relationship with these shoes.
