These Vandal shorts are nice, I like the colors especially Battle brown and Blue, the stretch is great and they feel nice on your skin. The pockets and zippers are nice also. The only slight con is the waist has no stretch, so if you lose 15 or 20 pounds it will be hard to keep them on and if you gain 20 pounds forget about it. That's why I just bought 36 inch and 35 inch instead of the 38 inch I'm wearing now, since I expect to lose 20 to 30 pounds.
My main reason for buying these shorts was for crossfit workouts. I searched around for other similar shorts and most of the "competition" was double the price. I put faith in 5.11 because I've owned multiple pairs of their pants and know they make high-quality clothing. Needless to say, I have not been disappointed. Previous shorts I've worn have limited my range of motion and fluidity with lifting. The Recon Vandal shorts have plenty of stretch and are the perfect length at just above my knee (5'10). I weigh around 200 lbs and the size 33 fit me with just enough room to bring the draw string closure completely together without any "sag" at my waist. Breathability is the next major win for these shorts. Air flows through the fabric with ease to help wick away moisture and dry quickly. The YKK zippers are always a nice touch. They are easy to grasp and lay flat against the zipper without flopping around. The offset pockets are just the right size and made of a mesh material. I am able to fit my mini-EDC items in both pockets with a small .380. These shorts have surpassed my expectations and are now shorts I wear on a regular basis outside of the gym. I would like to see 5.11 add small internal organizer slots inside each of the pockets like they do on their cargo pants. It would be nice to be able to slide a small knife (Victorinox Cadet) or flashlight (Streamlight Microstream) in so everything is not bunched together in the pocket. More colors would be nice as well but besides that these shorts are a home run.
These are great shorts. Material is fantastic. However they are built like board shorts with only a tie in the front at the fly. The ties don't run through the waistband, so if you lose a few pounds (like I did recently) there simply is no way to tighten them anymore. As a result I can't wear them for anything high activity, else I am constantly pulling them back up.
I've been training for over 25 years and these are by far the best workout shorts I've ever owned! 5.11, please add more colors like camo to selection, as I want to buy more.
Comfortable! Love the stretch fabric! Unfortunately, these run very large! Based on my experience give yourself at least one, if not two inches.
I regularly wear these shorts for working out which consists of lifting, running and high functional movements. The shorts are very well made, look good and are comfortable. Highly recommend!!!
-Great workout shorts, they are my favorite shorts over other workout shorts.
-A bit expensive form other crossfit shorts in the market
-The only dislike is that the 5.11 print comes off even if you follow the care instructions of the garment.
I use these shorts for daily WOD wear. They are great for Oly lifting and have a nice feel to them.
They fit great, they are extremely comfortable, I wear them on a daily basis and will be purchasing a seccond pair for sure. Great product.
They are about the lightest and breeziest shorts I've ever owned. Working well for mountain biking in hot weather.
