I've had two of these penlights for years now, with two problems - I've broken a pocket clip and the rubber button cover has worn out. I think that the benefits of a nice bright light, that fits in the elastic holder on my Leatherman pouch, and also runs on regular batteries far outweigh these minor problems that are easily corrected by contacting customer service. I have two of these - one for work, one for my fire department uniform. I'm a fan!
I have personally owned 3 of these lights. I've bought 2 as gifts. My first couple needed new clips after they broke which thankfully customer service provided me. I had gotten very frustrated with the clips breaking and contacted them 8 months ago. They sent me replacements for the 2 I had currently broken and I didn't notice at the time but soon came to realize they had indeed added material to the clip where it meets the tail cap. I think they have solved the clip issues with this newer design. I'm happy to say their customer service has been excellent.
Its an OK flashlight. The pocket clip broke soon after purchase and some times, randomly, the button will refuse to work. I bought this to replace a lost Bushnell flashlight for a similar price point. Honestly would go for the Bushnell over this one. The Bushnell was smaller, cheaper, and more durable, a shame because I expected better quality coming from 5.11.
Its a very good light, and would buy from 5.11 fast on shipping and easy to talk to.
I purchased this lite to replace a similar one I bought at Home Depot for $5. Loss was the reason for replacement, not device failure. I carried that little lite for nearly 2 years with zero issues, and now am missing it terribly.
My new 5.11 began to show signs of use after just a few days of being carried in my pocket next to my mini-revolver. First the clip snapped off, then the tan finish began to rub away. After only 2 weeks of everyday carry and use the tail switch began to malfunction and after 3, the rubber switch cover began to rip away. I now have an unusable aluminum stick instead of a nice self protection lite. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT...and waste of money. Possibly the last 5.11 product I will ever buy.
This is my second penlight, not because of losing or damaging the 1st one, I actually gave the 1st one to my wife to keep next to the bed. The 2nd one I bought is for 2 purposes. 1st is I do remodeling, so a small bright light that I can clip to my pocket is very handy & useful. 2nd is that it's great for security. It has handy grippers on the sides to hold on to if a thrust to the solar plexis is needed for an attacker. A shine in the eyes, with or without a pistol. The thing that really impressed me, is that I left it in my work pants, and it went thru the clothes washer. Pulled it out dried it off, and it works! No leaks or anything. Great product! Thanks Tom S.
Worked wonderfully for about 2 years until I dropped while standing in the bed of my truck. I'm only 5'5" and the bed of my truck is 3.5 feet from the ground so at 8'11" it should've held up. That's if I was holding it on the top of my head; it was more about chest level. Not worth another $30 to replace it
I have dropped it on the floor while sitting on a chair. It died. Switch issues. Retailer changed it to a new one, all good.
New one has same issues with malfunctioning switch.
I used it daily for my early morning shifts at work, feels great, rugged, and seems durable so far. But I wished it were made in the USA and not china.
This light was givin to me as a gift. It has been the best small flashlight I have ever had. Customer service has been outstanding, my button wore out on the end and they replaced it!! My kids have lost it on me and I am lost without it !!! Hoping "Santa" will bring me a new one !!!
