Overlooking the horrendous 3 month shipping time that I got for them being out of stock when I had purchased them, I received 2 pairs in the mail and was exited to test them out for the trip I was taking. Spent 3 weeks in Guatemala, and I don't want to say I put them through a lot of stress but already some of the stitching is coming loose, especially around the knife pocket which is really disappointing for someone who constantly carries a knife on them. The look is a solid 10/10 but in terms of form and function... Ehh not impressed
I rarely write reviews because I'm lazy but I love these pants. I'm tall and skinny (6' 1'' and 170 lbs) and would like to think that I'm somewhat stylish. these pants fit and look great and I feel like I could still go hiking or even do squats or deadlifts while wearing them. I carry a flashlight, multitool, wallet, pen and keys on a regular basis and there is plenty of room for all these items and they all fit great in the pockets. I have (but don't carry yet) a glock 43 and it fits well inside the waist band (appendix and 4 o'clock) and a spare mag fits well in the mag pocket in the back. the pants don't look civilitary at all and I plan on wearing them out. If you want to carry your EDC but want to remain stylish and keep a low profile, these pants are for you!
5.11's Defender-Flex Slim Jeans are my favorite. I have 5 pairs of them, but .... YOU SHOULD produce them in KHAKI & COYOTE BROWN color as well.
PS. Recently i bought the Burnt color. On your site they looks very brown-red, but once I got them I love them. It's more like battle brown color, very dark brown which is ok for me.
These pants are excellent. Top-notch quality, style, and comfort. I normally float between a 31 and 32 waste. A 31 in the Flex Defender fits me perfect and the stretchability nicely accommodates my S&W Shield and IWB holster.
One thing to be aware of: these are essentially jeans. I doubt they will pass muster as “business casual” in my work environment. But that’s okay — they look great and work well for a night on town.
The critical comment about the shallow pockets is valid. I guess I would prefer a bit more pocket, but this is not a big concern for me as the hidden mag pockets more than make up for any lost capacity.
The comment regarding the 5.11 logo on the butt, looking like the guy sat in something ... well, I don’t know what to say about that one except he may be a little too worried about how others view his rear. Sounds like a personal problem to me.
Seriously, these are some of the most comfortable pants I own. I’ve already ordered a pair of the (blue) jeans, and will likely be back for a pair of the oil green or burnt colors.
Hands down the most comfortable pants I own. The mag pockets are great too! Perfect for my iPhone +.
I like the deep coin pocket as well. Looking forward to getting more colors, I own the Sand & Volcanic. Next purchase will be the jeans version!
Great job 511 design team!!!
big fan of the defender pants! my only complaints are the small pocket sizes and the confusing name for the cuts.
come one guys the "5th pocket is as big and deep as the back pocket.... smaller pockets then my levis
the slim is not a slim at all just a tapered leg and the regular are really just a boot cut. almost didnt buy a pair because i thought the slims were slim fit.
add some more colors to the jeans with bigger pockets and you'll have a real 5 star product!
These are the new standard in my wardrobe. The attention to detail is simply the best. The fit is perfect as well. I love the hidden rear pockets too.
Great job 511 design team
The fabric on these pants is soft enough to be comfortable yet durable. I particularly like the AR mag pocket on either hip. I have thicker thighs because of weightlifting, but this pant is not too slim nor too baggy, and also has a great taper especially with boots on. Similar to the old Levi 508 fit.
Be prepared for the unexpected without tipping everyone off. This pant has the right silhouette for a contemporary fit with the pockets ready for extra mag, TQ, & EDC knife. Stay grey if you want to be effective- drop the obvious cargos, ripstop and paramilitary look and blend in with the Defender. I would advise going a size or two down from a TRUE waist size because of the stretch. This a pant that I can wear every day and not draw attention to myself- and that's a really effective way to keep a target off me.
I love the fit of these pants; unfortunately, 511 put a brand tag on the lower right corner of the right rear pocket. Everytime I glance in a mirror it looks like I sat in something.
Even in the field I don't want people thinking I'm careless enough to sit in crap. The tag is integral to the pocket seam so I can't cut it off.
I'd buy multiple pairs but can't get past the tag placement.
