Use the boots daily and love them so far. The factory laces are cheap quality and the reason for less than 5 star rating. I had to buy laces after the fact and that set me back $26.95 to my door. I would have rather bought them with my original purchase had I known. Don't repeat my mistake!
I've own a few different styles of duty boots by a few different brands and these are by far the most comfortable ones I've owned. They are also the lightest in weight.Very easy to run in.
They were good for around 5 months, but yesterdat the velcro piece that goes over the side zipper ripped off. Then today the zipper broke...so apparently I'm in the market for a new pair of boots.
I bought these boots in July 2012 prior to entering an eight month academy. I am now working the streets as a police officer and they still hold up great. Hot days in Texas heat they ventilate wonderfully. Normal wear and tear from wearing four days a week for over a year, but quality is great. I will be buying another pair. The boots hold a great shine.
I recently completed the Nijmegen International 4-Day 100 Mile Rucksack March in the Netherlands, which demanded the absolute best gear in order to complete the mission. A household name to our unit was naturally 5.11.
The Taclite Side-Zip boots held up to the most rigorous challenges. The way the boot fit and ease of getting them off after a long day rucking was a godsend. The side pockets were a nice addition, having the ability to add a Nike chip or similar pace counter. The only downside was that the laces started to fray after 60 miles into the march. All in all, I would recommend this product to individuals seeking high quality products for high intensity operations.
I work as a full time police officer and wear them everyday on patrol. When all my co-workers look for new boots I recommend these. Extremely comfortable for all patrol related functions. Have also used them hiking in grows and they worked great. The side zip makes for an easy on and off. Lightweight and good to run in (for boots). Don't have any complaints about them and would recommend them if you're looking for a good, comfortable, lightweight, and reliable boot.
These boots fit like a glove. Comfortable, stable and fit amazing. I can't believe I feel this comfortable with 8" boots. It feels like I'm wearing a luxury running shoe.
I bought my second pair with no apprehension. I will buy this boot again and again.
Working as a security offer that constantly enters/exits a vehicle in all weather types, these boots have not failed me in any way, minus a couple of temporary exceptions.
Overall, the boots are excellent. Well made, strong soles, little to no break in period, excellent traction, etc. Very good support, and after a 14 hour shift, my feet are not tired or sore. The side zip is of good quality and straight, thus lessening fatigue. Moisture control is also excellent, and I have had no problems with odor from these boots. They were slippy at first (explained below), and most surfaces were not a problem, including ice, snow, and wet. Even in mud they held up just fine. The Sausage laces are AMAZING.
My only negatives - on the body of the boot, there were a lot of loose ends to the stitching which I had to trim and melt. Not a huge deal, but it affects the appearance of the boot. They look ragged until you trim them up.
Second - When the boots were new, the soles were VERY slippy on wet tile or linoleum. Particularly terra cotta tiles of the type found in commercial kitchens. I found that the soles had to wear in for about a month of everyday, all day wear for this to stop. I nearly fell several times in this process. Not something to stop you from buying, but just be careful for a while.
Boots feel great and are very light weight but the stiching on the outside of the boot came out after one week of use. I wear these boots for work as a Police Officer so I am on my feet a lot. Great comfort! Quality sucks!
Great boots. I have had them almost a year now and they still hold a great shine. They are just as comfortable today as the day when I bought them. They are good in cold weather for me. I wear them in -5 degrees and am still comfortable as long as I stay moving. They are also great in 90 degrees, I sweat a lot in them but the special insole wick most of that moisture. One thing I would change is the zipper. Sometimes in the squad car it will fold near the ankle and cause slight irritation.
