I bought a pair in OD Green to wear with my Boy Scout uniform. the color is almost spot on! I've been using them over 2 years on campouts and hikes, and they've held up great! now alot of our boys in the troop and most of the adults are wearing them.
I work in the production side of the oilfield. I wear the 511 tactical pants as work pants and am extremely impressed. The pocket designs are perfect. The cut and fit is perfect. The fabric is tough as nails, resistant to even crude oil and grease stains and breathes. I absolutely love the pants. I carry a full frame pistol IWB concealed every day as well in comfort. They are worth a look for anyone who is tired of throwing money away on other popular brands of so called work pants.
Even though it fits and wears great the fabric is way beyond standard . My pants are faded and torn ( rip stop didn't work)
Comfort and practical pros of pants are weighed down by poor quality of material they made from
I bought six pairs in September 2011 for work in Afghanistan. I have literally worn the six pairs on a rotating basis almost every day since then. Today (August 2017) is the first day that one of the pairs has shown fraying and will not be wearable for work. So today is the day that I am buying six more pairs that will last me another six years.... Not bad for a $50 pair of pants!!!
They are hot. They are okay, I bought mine in February and they seem to have a lot of wear and tear already. I ordered another pair because these are our required uniform.
I've gone through quite a few pairs of these now, and I stand by their comfort and durability. Only problem is the inside of the thighs. If you're not the type to skip leg day, you might want to upgrade, as the inner leg area wears out rather quickly. Very poor choice for bike duty as well.
Still, overall very solid and reliable.
The fire navy pants fade after a few washes, even though I wash them inside out, in cold water, with gentle-keeps dark clothes dark laundry detergent. The pants get white fading spots on them. The knee stitching came out on one pair.
I have four pair of these pants and they hold up very well to the rigors of railroading. Highly recommend these for outdoor use.
...to anything but tacticals. These trousers (not pants) have been my staple since I bought my first pair thirteen years ago. I have worn them in every clime and place and they are the most comfortable and practical trousers I have ever worn. You have me for life and I hope they are never discontinued or I may have to return to the loincloth. And you do not want to see me in a loincloth...
