I don't know about you, but I was born with ankles. These boots seem to have been designed for people without them, because there's a section where several pieces are stitched together that falls DIRECTLY OVER THE ANKLE. Within an hour of wearing them, I started experiencing discomfort. An hour later, that discomfort turned into outright pain. I'm guessing the point of this section of stitching is to keep the tongue from moving, but I'd MUCH rather have a wayward tongue than a shoe-like torture device for my feet.
Ive been trying to break these boots in for 4 months and no luck I cant even bend them! I wear them every time it rains trying to get them good and wet to make them bendable no such luck. Ive tried every old fashion way and Nadda! After 4 hours I want to cut my feet off they hurt so bad....I take my old boots to work with me and change, and its a shame because these boots look nice but just dont wear nice. I ended up today buying something else...sorry 5.11 between your pants being horrible and now your boots Im done with your products...
I read most all the reviews writen on several web sites before purchasing this product from a supplier in Asia. I have to say that some of the negaive reviews must have been written by competitors, yes it happems!
The boots fit well and were nearly brokn in from day 1. I just don't get all the negative comments about the zipper being useless and uncomfortable. Yes they are a bit tight to slip on when the laces are still tied, but they should be if they fit properly. I highly reccomend wearing a good quality sock that is not too thick in order to facilitate putting them on without unlacing them.
We will have to see about the long term weard but to date I am very happy with the product!
I have a pair of ATAC 8 inch boots and they are great. These boots look awesome and fit well but, I have a similar problem to another reviewer. They seem to require a break in period and my ankle is killing me. If you get these boots, wear them for a bit at home before going to work.
School District Transportation Employee and School Security. Great for everyday in all applications. Tough and comfortable. Have no faults with this boot. Great for what I do.
I've had three of the 5.11 8" boots and have been happy with them. The 6" boot is very similar but I noticed my ankles were sore the 2nd day due to the shorter top. The tops of my feet were also sore where the shoe creases between the toe cap and the base of the laces. The 8" boot never had any "break-in" period, but these seem to need about a week before they're comfortable.
I'm not sure why the side-zipper is included; I can't put a tied boot on using the zipper, and I can put an untied boot on just fine with the size zipper all the way up.
I just got these a week ago but found them to be comfortable from the get-go. I hope they hold up well over the long haul.
The boot quality is good but the size was at least a half size off- too small. I returned it at my cost per 5.11 poiicy. Not thrilled with thst at all.
We just got 4" of snow here in the Pittsburgh region. I am wearing these boots as I type this review. I just got done telling Cpl. Holt how satisfied I am with these new boots. My toes did not get cold, traction was great, and they seem to break in rather quickly giving me a comfortable feel. It was a true shocker because I did not expect such a comfortable boot. I would buy these again.
I use these boots for everyday work outside. I am a maintenance tech so I'm involved in heat, mud, slipper slopes, etc and these boots work great. My only con is although they have the zipper side (which I won't be without) they are a little tighter than the higher boots to get on. Maybe after I break them in a little more they'll slide on better
