I tried using this with an ATAC A2 (the mid-sized light) and it was terrible. The light would constantly pop off the clip. I purchased an ATAC A1 which is more comparable in size to the clip itself and have had less difficulty, but I'm constantly checking to make sure the light is still there and hasn't popped off.
The only thing holding the flashlight in the clip is the flashlight's belt clip, so if there is any upward pressure on the flashlight (i.e. when you sit down, bump it on the arm of a chair, etc) it is prone to coming off the clip.
The small tab it comes with to adjust for the size of your belt is also easy to lose and they only give you one.
I do however prefer this to the newer style "holster":
This clip holds the light closer to my person than the holster does, which is important when trying to put on bunker gear.
Has slots and a piece of plastic to adjust to different size belts. All my 5.11 belts must be wider and/or thicker, so there is no way to make this light holder fit snugly -- it slides around. Lost 5.11 light the second day. Either the clip on the light is not strong enough (but if too strong, would impede drawing it) or the holder is too flimsy and loose.
It's a nice piece, the flashlight requires more force than I thought would be necessary to secure into the belt holster and it would be nice if the belt size adjustment clip had a recessed area in the holster for storage when not being used otherwise it will get lost because it is small. I wear different size belts depending on which job I'm at and I'm waiting for the day that I'll lose the adjusting clip. Otherwise, it's a good piece of equipment.
Clip compact easy to use. But the snap holding it to the belt flemsy and breaks easy. A must have so get a couple back up replacements.
Easy on and easy off.
Don't waste your money
Great duty clip. As a paramedic I work nights and have my light on my belt on every call. The clip holds great, especially on larger heavier belts. The only down fall is I wish it was made of a more sturdy material. The plastic tabs broke after about 8 months of daily use.
I bought this holster along with the 5.11 atac L2. There is nothing SECURE about this product. After 2 days of use, I took it off my belt. My flashlight fell out several times and I almost lost it once.
If you're going to use this holster on your belt, and you're always on the move, getting in and out of cars, sitting down and getting up, then this is not for you.
I picked this up at a local cop shop at a price cheaper than most places I had seen online, so I went ahead with it, despite questionable reviews. I had seen one or two that suggested it had been improved so I felt it was a worthwhile to give it a shot.
I bought the A1 flashlight to carry as a supplemental light on my duty belt and had just clipped it directly to my belt, but it required two hands to put it back. I figured this clip would fix that, without adding any bulk to my belt and the light.
The retention is very good. It positively snaps into place and I have not had it ever come close to coming out. I carry it directly behind my duty weapon and in front of my handcuffs which are at about the 4 o'clock position, so it's somewhat protected.
It's unobtrusive and is out of the way with no noticeable addition in weight.
The only complaint is that, as mentioned, the clips that close it onto your belt are a little flimsy. If someone were so inclined, it might come off with a good tug. I haven't tried the fix mentioned in another review, but I'm guessing it would be effective.
All in all, for the price, it's a good accessory to have for the ATAC line of lights, though the lights are very functional on their own.
The clip is cheap and will not stay atached to the duty belt. Dont waist your money.
