I do the majority of my work in an active truck yard for a busy distribution center. I am constantly on the move and since buying this jacket I now have a better chance of not getting run down by a truck. I like the fit of the jacket & the easy accessibility of the pockets. I like the badge holder too. The side zippers ride up every now and then but are easy to zip back down. All in all a very well designed jacket. The price is pretty stiff but you can find it for much less like I did.
I highly recommend this jacket for purchase. In an unexpected situation I was splashed with 98% sulfuric acid. This jacket protected me from serious burns. The reflective tape took a beating and there are a couple of small holes where the acid was able to breakthrough but all in all I am still wearing the jacket today. I use it as a testament to purchasing quality personal protective equipment for your personnel.
I travel a lot with work and have used this jacket during the rainy season in Africa and now currently in the high Peruvian Andean Mountains. It keeps the wet and cold out.
If there is any negative issue for this jacket I would have to agree with some of the other reviews and that is the jacket does not wash well. Either the fabric design or just the bright lime green color shows the dirt more.
Even with that being said I still recommend this jacket. I just upgraded to the Responder Hi-Vis Parka, looking forward to the new 5.11 jacket.
F.D. approved based on ANSI rating for OSHA requirement, maintains visibility on highway/roadways, increases personal safety.
Front zipper is very difficult to work and will only come partially clean with a scrub brush.
I love this jacket for Towing! Very warm coat. I get so warm sometimes I have to unzip it while working hard outside in the cold. Winter temps in Wisconsin range from +40 degrees to -10 degrees typically. My next 5.11 Parka will be the longer version though; because when you are hooking up a vehicle laying in the snow, this jacket is not long enough to protect you from snow going into your "plumbers crack" lol. I love the fact that there are ALOT of pockets! I like the "mic holders" for holding the stubby antenna of my portable police scanner that I keep in my right chest pocket. Great high quality reflective tape that is sewn into place. A small con that most everyone else comented on; the side zippers don't stay put. As you move around they creep up twords your armpit exposing your sides to the elements. Cleans up pretty well in the washing machine for what a Tower gets into. Another small con is that it doesn't seem to hold the personalized screen printing very well. The standard flatbed truck image and some of the lettering has already peeled off of two different jackets. All in all though, this is a great jacket and I would definately recommend it.
Wore this once for an 8 hour shift in the rain and cold of Virginia. Did great in regards to keeping me dry. Problem was side zippers kept unzipping during normal use. Once they go all the way to your armpit, it's difficult to pull them back down without taking off coat. Coat flaps in the breeze once it's open like that. I've been buying 5.11 products for more than 10 years, this is the first time I was disappointed.
Jacket is too bulky. To make the jacket reversible, tough shell fabric is lining both inside and outside making it uncomfortable & stiff to wear. The 3 in 1 parka is much better.
Great for the construction jobs that require High Viz. Myself would prefer a fleece lining, but an all round great coat!!!
I use this jacket daily as it gets cold out and through the Winter. Provides me with what I need it for. Has great visability day and night. The only con I have is the side zippers don't stay closed.
I work in many low light areas on Bagram airfield in afghanistan visability is poor in many cases. My jacket grabs light and sines it back to the source
