Used shorts for LE duty. Won't purchase this brand again due to fit and cost. Thought I'd get more bang for my buck.
I bought these shorts for wear when riding my bicycle around and found them to be suitable for general wear. They all the features needed, look good, and are better than the shorts I buy for seasonal wear at the stores. I will be buying more of these.
wear almost every day
wear like iron but feel like silk
A friend suggested I look into the 5-11 wear, thank you, I cleaned out my closet this weekend and all that is left is 5-11 pants and shorts, I'm the most content wearer out there.
Had some trouble with zippers coming unstitched when these 1st came out, but 511 took care of it & they have been fine the last year. Double beltloops with velcro on the outer set are only good for grabbing synthetic shirts, and anything sythetic they're washed with. I cut mine off. Front pockets could be a ~ 1" deeper to better conceal a pocket-holstered PF-9. Velcro cargo pocket flaps are hard to open with one hand. Other than that, they have held up well for comfortable general use. Great range of motion on/off the bike & don't grab on saddle nose.
For uniform use these are beautiful shorts. As part of my evolving bike outfit for CCW I needed some changes. For starters regular bicycle shorts fit just fine under these shorts using your normal size. The bike short legs will show while pedaling but this is a non-issue. The changes are in the pockets. When walking around all the stuff is in the cargo pockets and when riding it is moved to the back pockets. Therefore I added elastic webbing to both just like most tactical pants pockets to hold flashlights, magazines, etc. The existing inner pocket in the cargo pockets is not up to this task. The back pockets are the same size as the cargo pockets but the zippers are 2" shorter. This makes it very difficult to put your hand in while wearing bike gloves. The workmanship is very stylish which makes it difficult to replace the zipper with a longer one. I am still debating whether to replace it with a longer one or just rip it out and use Velcro. Another change that would be real nice would be the addition of a flashlight/knife pocket on both sides like the 24-7 tactical pants. Given the superb quality of these shorts I was surprise to see the hem stitching blow out on the front of one of the legs (about 6 inches) in less than 100 miles of riding. Given the changes I made I simply re-sewed it using a narrow zigzag stitch so the thread would not break when the material stretches.
zipper tore away from seam yesterday while Only 2 months old!
Very disappointed. My other 2 pair of khaki style 73287 still work perfectly.
Paid more money for less quality!
I bought these for both duty and personal use. The shorts are incredibly comfortable, dry quickly (don't end up smelling like 'sports gear') and don't rub. The lightweight fabric allows easy breathing and stretching but is also strong.
I have yet to use these on patrol but think they are going to be especially comfortable. The velcro keepers are well placed and well sewn.
Good stuff 5.11!
Best Bike shorts for the price point. Anyone who pedals two wheels for work knows that bike uniforms are expensive and the old saying of, "You get what you pay for..." rings true with uniforms. 5.11 has made a fantastic product and I prefer them daily over my $100+ Mocean shorts I was issued. The YKK zippers are a nice touch and the inner pocked to the leg cargo does a nice job of keeping larger items, note pad, cell phone, spare mag, snug and from flapping around and beating up your leg.
Only wish 5.11 would hurry up and come out with a pant version of these shorts or better yet a zip off pant for us who love the 2 in 1 ability.
