I'm using AR500 Level III 10x12 Advance Shooter Cut and it fits perfect. You can put a Square 10x12 plate in but it won't fit exactly because the carrier is angled at the top leaving a 1/2 inch or so of no protection with Square plates. This carrier is super comfortable and allows full of motion. Very happy with this carrier.
I have worn many different types of plate carriers and I have to say that the 5.11 TacTec Carrier is by far, the best that I have had. In the past, if I wanted a plate carrier that was easy to strip off, I had to pay big money, but it always seemed like I was giving up something else. This carrier has lots of padding, not only in the straps, but between you and your plates. There are also ventilation channels which I think are great. Plates on their own do not breathe at all, so it's nice to be able to get some kind of air circulation. The cumberbund has plenty of elasticity, so you are not wrapped like a burrito without being able to breathe. Believe it or not, you can comfortably get into the prone position without getting smacked in the jaw by your plates (Big Plus!!). Sitting in a car is as comfortable as one can be while wearing plates (I roll up a beach towel to support my hips and make up for the offset of plates, maybe I am just a sissy). The internal straps keeping your plates in the same spot keeps your plates up where they need to be, not sagging into your groin while sitting down (Again, a huge plus). It is evident to me that whoever designed this carrier has spent days confined in the agony of previous designs. I love this carrier, what else can I say?
High quality, breathable, light and exactly what you're looking for. I highly recommend.
Satisfied with the product. Very comfortable. A lot of velcro though. I would buy this product again and recommend it to anyone looking for a plate carrier.
I have had this carrier for awhile now and it stands up to daily range abuse. Whether on the ground shooting under a vehicle or running through a kill house it has constantly performed.
After reading some of the reviews here I don't feel like 511 is getting out the whole story. When ever I have had an issue with any 511 product, be it a torn strap or fraying or whatever, I have always gotten a replacement free of charge every time. The customer service is second to none at 511 and has been for me every time I have had an issue with any of their products.
With that being said I would recommend this carrier for anyone who is fit and trim. If you are a big bellied non cardio working person there isn't a plate carrier made anywhere that can cover lazy or complacent. Train as you fight and fight as you train. That is all.
I ordered this carrier with the anticipation that it would be a great addition to my equipment. After wearing/testing the carrier, I noticed that there's a lot of velcro in the front up top (heart, etc.), not plate area protection. Looks can deff. be deceiving. Just know that this carrier should be thrown on over an existing vest to enhance threat protection, not worn as a stand alone.
The design is more than a modified chest rig that holds plates. It is well thought out and can be removed from the front. Drag strap is one that is user- friendly and doesn't yank the vest off but actually pulls the individual. For the wearer the wide shoulder straps are key. There is a place for every thing. Great use of Velcro and molle.
This vest is really good, breathable, light and has a bunch of useful features I highly recommend this for run in gun, field use, cqb, etc. My only con is it's a bit short and isn't adjustable for length(6'2 210 lbs for refrence), however its a plate carrier not a LBE so it protects the vitals and fits large plates so im happy. It has a pretty good aount of molle on it for my applications, by no means is this a "haul 20 mags, 50 pouches and all the other stuff I don't use" carrier.
In conclusion the Tactec carrier is great at what its supposed to do, which is be a fast, light and durable armor carrier that holds a "ok" amount of pouches, etc. I highly recommend it if you have the money.
Seams tore with in the first week of receiving it. didn't even get a chance to use it in the field. Shotty workmanship. I wouldn't trust my life to it. I will say it was comfortable though. but i'd rather have a plate carrier that holds up to abuse.
Perfect plate carrier. The channeled padding allows air to circulate around and that is a noticeable improvement from other designs. Put a camel back on the rear and your good to go all day. I use it with two large Lvl IV multi-strike plates (10lbs a piece) and I'm rough with it all the time and I never have to worry about it failing. 511 did a great job with the construction and design. You wont regret this purchase.
