Picked this up to replace 511's original chest rig that I had. It is excellent for what its intended use is for...I agree it is not for a "soldier" or PMC, and if I had access to full plate carriers or Paracleat armor I don't know why you would go for a chest rig....chest rigs are obviously smaller, for some people this is a good thing. LEO's that aren't authorized to wear the Tac vests this may be good for for an active shooter type situation...stores 6 mags out of the box- excellent, comfortable. I like the built in AR mag holders as thats less pouches to buy/ attach.
I wore this vest for training and multiple overseas operations. This vest was not designed for operations as a soldier.
You will have difficulty finding room to put your full allotment of equipment on this vest eg. Med pouch, 10 x 5.56 mags, 2 x 9mm mags, utility pouch and anything else you want to Carrie. This vest would be a better designed for low profile carrier only sustaining 6 mags.
The weight will all set on you stomach and the straps pull at the back of your neck and shoulders after 3 hours of wear the vest becomes so uncomfortable it was unbearable.
This designed is better suited for a small police urban operation that are not going to require a lot of gear or to wear the vest for a pro longed time.
I work in Afghanistan and bought this to use and after a week of wear one of the magazines already wore through the material. I had high hopes for this but was disappointed.
Once I get a chance to run it. Then I'll update it.
I would have liked the mag pockets separated (or if they had a hsgi type insert inside the pockets). I also would like to see buckles for a quick detach/attachment point at the base of the vest instead of the stitched attachment points ( i had a local seamstress attach buckles )...I use this rig for rapid deployment over my police uniform, the buckles would assist in getting this rig on faster.
This vest does what it claims I guess,it's just too complicated for my 50 yr old style. No instructions for the bungee's and I can't figure them out.Mag covers are fine though.Mags fit in the main pockets fine but there is a stretchy inside strap that gets in the way of inserting mags.I'm going to cut them out.I suppose you are supposed to put the strap around your mags. However this takes time because the straps are very tight and not lined up properly on the 2 outside pockets and if you have the covers on there is no need for this strap.I don't drop my mags,I stow them back in the rig.The inside strap is in the way for this to happen in a timely manner. So without the inner strap and with some instructions for the bungees I would add a star to the rating.
I have used similar products, but I prefer this
A well made and lightweight chest rig. I've added a couple of pouches per my own preferences. I have not tried using the side pockets for water bottles yet. That said, the retention for the rifle mags is great (internal strap and a cover), and the rig is very easy to fit. Great for range work or grab and go. I would have liked an instruction sheet for the bungee setup.
You really can't go wrong with this rig. Well made easy to configure for your own personal needs. It also does fit 7.62x51 magazines.
