Very uncomfortable, Not recommended

By David H/ Scandinavian Wilderness Society

When I saw this pack, I instantly set my RUSH12 for sale online and sold it under 24 hours. With funds I ordered this very good looking pack. It had all the features I wanted without being overly complicated, it seemed like the perfect pack for day hikes and urban edc. After getting the pack the looks still appealed to me alot.
The 5.11 ignitor has great organization, the pockets and zippers seems great and allows for many different setups and will adapt to a lot of different gear. This is when the positive spirit ends. The pack has a large plastic frame sheet, which lacks padding at the bottom, the pack digs so much into my spine at the bottom that even empty the weight of the pack feels very uncomfortable. The sternum strap lacks adjustment even as a smaller guy the lowest point digs into my collarbone. The waist belt lacks adjustment too, and seems designed for people with a lot of belly fat, even tightened all the way in, it did nothing in terms of weight distribution, all weight still ends up at the lower spine and not around the hip where it should be. The mesh backing seems like a great idea, only problem is, the part that makes contact with my back, has no ventilation. I was soaked in sweat after walking 100 meter (never had this problem with the rush). Over all the RUSH packs handles weight a lot better, is better designed, higher quality for the same price. If you are thinking about getting this pack, watch "Ouch! 5.11 Tactical Ignitor Backpack" on youtube by gideonstactical. "The Ignitor pack causes a lot of pain on the back and on the wallet. I usually really like what 5.11 Tactical puts out, but this one fails to be comfortable or cost effective." I agree with every point in this video, and returned the pack. Get any of the 5.11 RUSH packs, they are outstanding quality and very well designed. This pack is not, and I returned it after a week. IGNITOR BACKPACK...AMAZING!!

By Robin

from

I bought this pack as back-country day pack because it offered the ability for customization, carrying a side arm, and adaptable using the rifle option to carry my 5pc fly rod tube. The suspension system (used on higher end backpacks) was a deal clincher for me.
A little about myself
I am an Industrial Designer and Design Engineer; I design both hard-goods and soft-goods. I have designed bags and cases for many top companies, but never a backpack that met my needs; such is life as a designer.
That said this backpack blew me away!! The quality and attention to detail is mind blowing for a pack of this price. The stitching, material choices, function, comfort, adjustability, and flexibility are all top notch. A+
There in nothing easy about designing and then manufacturing a great pack
Things I wish it had, and this is nitpicking
1. The waist pads slide on the webbing belt. A simple hook and loop retention at the back through a sewn in D-ring would be nice
2. Waterproof zippers. I would have paid more for this option. Yes, they are harder to open and close but having a bag that can deal with a Colorado instant down poor would be great.
3. On the same note, elastic zipper garages sewn into the zipper tape ends so you could tuck the zipper in if you wanted a better seal.
4. Waterproofing. No biggie here and nothing a little spraying at home can’t solve.
I researched packs to death. What I found was most “tactical” type of bags are not technical, but instead are pretty basic old school in their design and materials. You would think these two aspects would be a logical design approach, but no. At least one company figured it out! I am looking forward to a long friendship with my new pack. Thank you 5.11

Superlative camera backpack

By Adrian

from

Over the years I have used commercial camera backpacks and also some non camera-specific packs. Finally with the Ignitor I have found the perfect pack for me. Here are some of the reasons I love it.

- My tripod is easily stowed using the fixings for carrying a rifle.
- Tripod fastened I still have room to shove a fleece jacket into the 'stuff it' pocket
- Side zipped pockets to carry my drinks away from camera equipment inside the pack
- Comfortable waist belt. This is absolutely essential when carrying a bag of gear around all day.
- Admin pocket means I can get to essentials like spare batts and memory cards in a flash.
- Hydration pocket (for stowing iPad and photography magazine)
- Backpack zips open completely so it is easy to pack, organise and have access to all contents at once. This is so important when It's late and I'm tired.
- Loads of ventilation in the back. Indispensable in hot areas.
- Molle so I can add extra pouches when needed
- Sandstone colour, which does not heat up in the sun like a black camera backpack.
- Does not look like a camera backpack that is full of thousands of Dollars of photography equipment.
- Super compact for taking on buses and planes
- Comfortable on my motorbike and bicycle

I love it! Well done 5.11
